In an effort to continue to become familiar with this season
Canes team we will have a look at the rookies that help make up one of the
youngest teams in the league.
The team’s record of 15-11-1 is much improved over the last
few seasons of sub-par .500 play and a great deal of this success can be
attributed to a number of talented rookies that are in the lineup.
Near the top of the list is 23 year-old talented right
winger Tyler Boucher, who was attained in a trade this offseason with the
Canucks. The deal consisted of Carolina Hurricanes send Tyler Kleven, Ryan
Leonard, $3,500,000 to the Vancouver Canucks for Tyler Boucher. It was a steep price, but the winger is
currently 3rd on the team in scoring with 19 points in 28 games.
Jonathan Marchessault is a 21 year-old winger, who has 14
points in 28 games, planning on the 3rd line. He came to the team in an offseason
blockbuster deal, Minnesota Wild send Shane Wright, Alexander Romanov, Jonathan
Marchessault, & PIT 1st 2032 to the Carolina Hurricanes for Melker
Karlsson, Miro Heiskanen, Joel Svensson, DAL 2nd 2034.
On the blueline, 26 year-old Jonny Tychonick was brought in
the season to fill a spot in the 3rd pairing with vet Sean Durzi. The pair has become a very reliable solid
pairing, while Tychonick pitching in 11 points as well. The deal that brought him in was Los Angeles
Kings send Jonny Tychonick & LA 3rd 2033 to the Carolina Hurricanes for
Morgan Reilly (salary retained).
That is a quick introduction into 3 of the 9 rookies that a
regularly play on the big team’s starting roster. More to come next week.
