The sun has peeked out in Hurricane neighborhood, but the
beaten up fanbase is holding back their hopes as this team is anything but consistent.
After opening with 4 straight wins, followed by 7 straight
losses, then a lose one win one stretch the team has finally strung a short
winning streak of 3 in row at the time being.
The team’s issue, thus far this season, has not been the
teams goaltending, with both the started and the back having a SA% of over
.908. The main problem has been a lack
of scoring, especially depth scoring as the first line has been carrying the
team so far. Brock Boeser and Jake
Virtanen have led the scoring charge over the winning streak, with a goal here
and there thrown in by the other three lines.
The defense has been led by their stud dman Miro Heiskanen,
with 14 points in 25 games, but vet Morgan Rielly has not been far behind has
been a pleasant surprise. Timothey
Lijegen has been a welcome addition to the top 4, the entire group though has
done a much better job of limiting the number of shots allowed.
The team has been disappointed with the youngster Ozzy
Wiesblatt, who was acquired in the Grigori Denisenko trade, the young winger
has struggled on the 2nd line.
The fact that Grigori Denisenko has been a point a game player for his new
teams, has only put a spotlight on his struggles.
Today the Pens are on the slate, let’s hope that after the game
team is now 5-0. Stay tuned.
