Moves Made During Streak

By Duane Goetz

Well, it is always risky making roster moves during a winning streak, especially a 5 gamer.  But, I took that chance today with a two separate significant deals.

The first being with the team out of Seattle in a quest to bring in a struggling stud on the blueline, that stud being Quinn Hughes.  to say Hughes is struggling so far this year would be an understatement as he currently has a paltry 1 goal and 0 assists in 16 games.  Almost seems impossible, he is going to have to turn things around to avoid a brutal rerate, he should pair nicely with Dobson on the first pairing.  Coming to the Canes along with him is 18 year-old prospect Ethan Procyszyn who plays C and RW.  Going the other way is the valuable 23 year-old rookie Cole Sillinger, who currently is the top scoring rookie in the league and is leading the Calder race.  He will be missed, but the chance to get Hughes had to be jumped at.
The 2nd trade of the day was needed to be made in order to make a spot on the blueline for Hughes, with that being said, 27 year-old veteran Dman Timothey Lijegen was moved to NJ for 25 year-old defensive forward Connor McMichael.  McMichael will slot in on the LW 2nd line to help fill the void left by the absence of Sillinger.
The team has been playing so well after a slow and difficult start, sitting in 2nd in the division and 4th in the conference, things have been going well.
Time will tell if these trades disrupts the team's chemistry, but on paper the team is stronger and has added some youth on the farm.
