This is Bob Cobb coming to you from Rumors Sports Bar in downtown Nashville with a report on our beloved Preds~
As we see every FNHL season, the trade deadline brings all sorts of rental deals from teams across the league. It's always interesting to see who goes in as a buyer, who stocks up as a seller, and who 'stands pat.' As usual, we saw several deals go down in Nashville and we'll take a quick look at those today. Though their 3rd line center position had been held by young Matthew Savoie, there was little doubt that the team would benefit from having a more veteran presence leading the bottom 6. Cue the addition of Jonathan Toews, a player with a proven ability to raise the play of those around him -- He'll immediately slot in as the 3rd line pivot. This isn't the last we've seen from Savoie.. he's a talented kid.. but it may take a change of scenery or something. We shall see on that front!
The next big rental trade for the Preds saw them bring over Aaron Ness, a veteran defender from the Penguins. Ness started his career in Nashville and at 37 years of age, we could potentially see his career end in Nashville as well. We asked Aaron about that and he had the following to say...
"...I don't think too much about that right now, Bob. I'm just excited to have another chance to play deep into the playoffs.. great group of guys here.. good times.." - D Aaron Ness
I have to say, I'm excited to see how these veteran additions mesh with the rest of the roster over the final stretch. The Preds will host the Hawks tonight and word on the mean streets is that Linus Ullmark will get the start in goal. He hasn't had a great season, but he's still got a handful of starts left to 'right the ship' as they say~
Until next time, I'm Bob Cobb and if I've said it once, I've said it a thousand times.. it ain't always pretty in Rental City.
