The bright spot right now in the Los Angeles Kings organization is the play of their farm team, the AHL Manchester Monarchs. The Monarchs currently lead the entire AHL with a record of 26-11-1, good for 53 points on the season.
The team is lead by veteran Dennis Yan. Yan played in the NHL last season, scoring 14 goals, however that ended up hurting his OV rating, so he is out to prove himself again and try to make it back to the big leagues. He is leading the team with 61 poinys thus far.
Probably the most impressive growth has come from 20 year old Noah Ostlund. Ostlund, acquired from Toronto in the Trevor Zegras deal had a respectable sophomore season last year with 81 points. Ostlund has surged this year, on pace for 50 goals and 76 assists. Even if that projection falls short, Ostlund should be set to crack the LA lineup next season.
The team is really playing as a cohesive unit and GM Berger is hoping that the group will continue to progress. Building from within may be the only way forward with a young core that will need to be locked up in Los Angeles in the near future.
