New Faces in New Jersey

By Nathan Erb

The offseason changes in New Jersey weren't dramatic, but significantly added depth. The Devils also have one more year of development for their top young players, giving the team hope after a disappointing season.

Marcus Kruger, Center. The 32 year old center was signed as an unrestricted free agent this offseason to a 1 year deal. Kruger has played over 500 games in the FNHL, mostly with Tampa Bay. While not the 50 point player he once was, Kruger gives the Devils depth in the bottom 6. He had 29 points with Boston last season.

Danny DeKeyser, Defense. Another  offseason free agent signing, DeKeyser brings stability to a blueline that struggled last season. While statistically having his worst season in Edmonton, DeKeyser is still a fantastic skater with offensive upside in the right situation. He signed a team-friendly 2.4 million deal.

Mikhail Grabovski, RW. Acquired on re-entry waivers, Grabovski comes at a bargain 2.5 million on a 1 year deal. In a reduced role with Seattle, he posted 35 points last season. However, he topped 60 points in the previous 2 seasons. New Jersey feels he has enough left in the tank to chip in on the 3rd line.

Brandon Tanev, RW. Drafted by New Jersey, Tanev is set to make the pro roster this year. The former second round pick adds some grit and good zone play on the bottom line.
