New York Islanders ready for a new season

By Marnix

Well the sun has been shinning in Long Island to start the 2031 season, the team is off to a quick start after the first two games of the season including a 5-2 win on the road in the first game of the year.  The new management team is already seeing good signs of chemistry on and off the ice after making a lot of changes on the backend adding 3-4 defensive minded dmen that can eat up minutes.  The additions of Devon Toews(trade), Brady Skeji(waivers), Paul Postma(signing), Derrick Pouliot(signing) and Ian McCoshen(trade) has given the head coach a lot of options with experience and a defensive pedigree.  One player that was really happy in practice today was superstar goalie Richard Bachman who praised the management team for bringing in guys that will help the team play more in the O-zone.

The first taste of the entry draft saw the team with just a 2nd round pick and a 3rd which they used to address a much needed farm goalie, winger to start the development era. Having no first round picks till 2032 draft will mean Vanturennout getting creative in retooling the roster for success, especially with so many expiring contracts coming off the books.  Development camps saw most of the money go towards one Bode Wilde and scoring winger Cross Hanas, both 22 year old prospects that the team projects to be #1 D along with #1 goal scorer for the foreseeable future.  Both players are on the last year of a bridge deal that should see a big next contract if they deliver what the team needs, rumor has it GM Vanturennout has already had some good conversations with their agents about long term deals.  Hanas will have Calder aspirations this season getting the chance to play with star center Quinton Howden who will anchor a top line flanked by the rookie sensation and big Lukas Reichel . Exciting days in Long Island to come with playoff aspiration being the goal this year.
