RACE FOR THE PLAYOFF TIGHT IN EAST AND WEST

By Marnix

With most teams having 15 games left in the regular season there appears to be many things to watch in the coming day!  With the rental window opening teams have really taken aggressive measures to weaponized their teams for long playoff runs, but while some teams weaponize, a great many more wonder if they will make the cut for playoff glory!  With the season winding down the race in the East has taken a turn as it looks like the NY Islanders are dropping out of the window with the sale of rentals, while a team that was very much in the driver's seat has recently lost 10 in games in a row and squeezed a pitiful 2 of 20 points during that stretch.  The team I refer to is the Carolina Hurricanes, with the huge slump they now sit 2 points out of a playoff spot with along with the New York Rangers who have 2 games in hand on the Canes, plus one game on the teams sitting in spot 7 and 8.  In the West it is even crazier with spots 6 through 12 separated by 5 points!  This year is going to yield many storylines in the coming days as teams try to squeeze in and get an opportunity to face some pretty elite teams in the 1st round of action as a reward. Watch those boxscores and buckle in for a bumpy ride.  One dark horse to watch is Tamp Bay Lighting who are 8-2 in their last 10 and picking up serious steam!
