Rebuilding on the Horizon in NYI

By Marnix

With the season past the halfway point GM Marnix Vanturennout has had a chance to evaluate what The New York Islanders have and wanted to talk to the media about the course moving forward.  This afternoon the Islanders have made a trade block available to the whole league and the message was loud and clear, this team will be sellers at the deadline and look to aquire as many draft picks to help restock the cupboards and bring in a new wave of Islanders, new foundation, and new identity for next season.  "We have seen enough this year to be convinced making the playoffs is not very likely and even if we were to squeak in would not have much of a chance against some of the deeper teams.  Since our roster is going to look drastically different next season there is no need to even get a round of playoff hockey under our belts.  We have evaluated the players we have and are excited to move forward with a core group surrounding Wilde, Reichel, Coronato, Hanas, and Bourque.  We are excited to see if some of our prospects in Bridgeport will be ready to make the jump next year and really learn the how the pro game is played.  We anticipate icing a very young roster which is very exciting, but also very tough on players as we anticipate a few more loses with the hope we can make it hard night in and night out for our opponents. I want to formally announce that we will be in a full rebuild for a few seasons so we can open a long window which will result in contending for cups year in year out with sustainability so we don't have to go through this again for a long time."
