Same old Playoff Story

By Duane Goetz

With 19 games remaining in the Canes season, a look at the
standing results in a very familiar story as years gone by.  The team once again finds itself barely in a
playoff position, a few points out of the top of the conference and a few
dropped points from falling out of a playoff position.

The team’s record of 63GP-24W-21L-14OT-4OTL is respectable,
but what jumps out at you is that the team almost has as many ties as
losses.  This can be looked at in a
couple ways, first being that 1 point is better than 0, but on the other hand,
those are valuable points thrown away.
On the downside, the extra time on the ice has not helped in keeping
Korpisalo fresh in the pipes.

Regarding Koprisalo, the rookie goalie has done a good job
in filling Tukka Rask’s crease after his retirement.  Granted, Korpisalo’s conditioning and
endurance needs to improve, but the raw skills and great attitude has bubbled
to the surface and his future looks bright.

Gab Vilardi is quietly having a career year with 54 points
is 63 games.  That being said, the team’s
offense does rely on more of a balanced attack.
The 6 players that make up the top 2 lines have over 40 points
each.  The third line has given the team exactly
what they expect from a thirst line, timely scoring and solid defense.

With 19 games remaining the fans and management will be
riding the “in or out” of playoffs roller coaster once again. Stay tuned.
