New Season, New Hopes

Kings made a few off-season splashes

By Bobby Berger

The Los Angeles Kings finished last season with the surprisingly 2nd worst record in the FNHL. They parlayed that season into the number 4 draft pick, where they selected Defenseman Vince Dunn. Dunn won't be with the pro team this year, but will likely be a stalwart on the blueline for years to come in the future. But enough about the future, how about the present?

Well, the Kings made a few deals.to solidify what they believed to be their weakness, which was on the blueline. The Kings obtained veteran Dman P.K. Subban in a deal with Vancouver. The Kings believed that by adding Subban they get another veteran presence to add to a young forward core. The Kings also got Danny Dekeyser in a deal with St. Louis which saw them ship out young prospect Brayden Tracey. The Kings believed that while the Kings had a dearth of similar forward prospects, adding to the backend should be the priority.

"When you look at the make-up of this club, you could see we were very young up front. We hope that another year of maturity leads to better results. That and this defense should be one of the deepest in the league, so they can better allow the forwards to just focus on what they do best, score," said GM Berger.

The results remain to be seen, but we are just happy it is puck drop time.
