13 Wins in 40 Games is Simply Not Good Enough

By Toby Rice

Frustration is mounting. No, frustration is boiling over. The Florida Panthers are 13-19-6-2 at nearly the halfway point in the season. With the team's roster, that is abysmal.

"They're awful," said one fan. Another proclaimed, "This team sucks, blow it up already!" And another, "Trade somebody already. Let's shake it up!"

Panthers' management spent a lot of time this offseason crafting a plan to put together this roster. Then, in 48 hours, several blockbuster trades were made. The result? A roster stacked with 10 players rated 80 or above. Now at the middle of the season, we asked the GM if he regrets the moves.

"No. You don't play to lose. You don't put together a team with the expectation of losing. We put together a team that we thought would play together and win some hockey games. We have the talent, but the results aren't there right now." So, is there still time?

"Look, we're only at the half. There's a lot of hockey left to be played."

Management still seems optimistic, but the fans not so much. Time will tell with this team. One thing we can all agree on is that on paper, this team isn't the bottom feeder they've been playing like.
