Leblanc on Pace to Smash Career Best

By Toby Rice

After five full seasons in Florida, Louis Leblanc resigned with the Panthers on a two year deal this offseason. At 35, Leblanc may not have many years left, so choosing to stay in Florida means something to the veteran forward. That decision is paying dividends so far.

Leblanc is on pace to score over 90 points, 20 more than his career best. In fact, Leblanc has only reached 70+ points three times in his career, with 72 points being his best. In 49 games this season, he has scored 22 goals and contributed 33 assists for a total of 55 points.

"We asked him to continue to be a leader for this team, and he's done just that," said the Panthers' coach. "We had some good discussions this offseason about his role on and off the ice. He's been nothing more than phenomenal this season. He's the leader of this team, and guys are showing up to support him. We're very happy."

Leblanc signed a two year contract extension over the offseason after spending the five previous years in South Florida. He spent the beginning of his career in Chicago, with a short stint in Toronto before coming to Florida. The Panthers currently sit in first place in their division and second overall in the Eastern Conference.
