Panthers Talking to Teams at Deadline

By Toby Rice

The Florida Panthers haven't made any moves that signify whether they're buyers or sellers this deadline. Rumors have swirled that they could be both. However, while the Panthers have discussed options with several teams, there doesn't appear to be anything imminent. Here's what we do know...

Sam Reinhart has been mentioned as a potential "sell" as he is a pending UFA, and he could be a very solid rental for any team buying. The thought is that if Reinhart is moved, that opens up a top 6 position for Dylan Guenther. Guenther, who's having a mediocre season is relegated to the third line due to depth. Early signs points to him taking a top 6 role next season regardless of any moves at the deadline.

Lukas Bengtsson has been shopped as well. It is rumored that Bengtsson is being packaged with prospects in order to try and bring in a rental defenseman for a playoff run. Bengtsson has played fine for a bottom pairing, but the Panthers would like to add one defensemen to help rookie Simon Nemec through the postseason push.

The Panthers won't be shy about making a move, even if it is a bigger deal, or it includes previously unmovable farm talent. No names have been mentioned, but the team has an influx of talent on the farm, and management is willing to do whatever it takes to improve the organization. If some aren't moved now, the offseason is expected to be very busy for the Panthers.
