Slight Improvement, But Where is the Offence?

By Antonio Borrelli

Sens fans are still looking for more, but the Sens are slowly starting to put together a more complete game. Sens are sitting at .500, one point out of a playoff spot in the East. The defense has improved as of late, limiting the opponent to 3 or less in the last six games with four of those 2 or less. They now sit ninth in the league in terms of team goals against per game, something fans and management expected of the veteran group and Hellebuyck.

In terms of the offense, this is clearly still an issue. Matthews is still sitting at 5 goals through 26 games, by far his worst start to a season. Currently, Lessio, a career AHLer finally getting the call to play on the third line, leads the team with 9 goals and has more points then Matthews, sitting at 16, good for third on the team, only two back of Strome. Overall, the Sens offense is ranked 28th in the league, well off where this team should be. You can expect the coach to shuffle the lines to spark some offense. Could there be a trade in the future? It is very much possible as this team should not be fighting for a playoff spot, rather should be fighting for home ice, at the very least.

There are rumours that management is exploring the market on Ratchuk, O’Marra and Stalberg to see if they could bring in some younger talent to increase the offense and shake things up. The Sens play Detroit tomorrow night, a team also dealing with the same issues as the Sens. Should be a good one and may lead to one jumping into a playoff spot. Go Sens Go!
