Sens Off-Season Preview

By Antonio Borrelli

The Senators somehow did not make it past the first round and the Toronto Maple Leafs. After winning the division and finishing amongst the top five in the standings, and in offence and defence, the Sens lost in 5 games. Many of the Sens stars had career years. Matthews, Vesey, Strome all had career years in many statistical categories and Hellebuyck continued his presence as one of the top goalies in the league. The defensive core was outstanding all year with Parayko finishing at +32. Rookie call-up Samuel Poulin had a great first season, along with Dellandrea and Vesalainen who will all play big roles next season.

Where do the Sens go from here? With Matthews, Vesey, Stalberg, Klingberg, and Goncharov all on expiring contracts, this may be a difficult offseason. With the flat cap the Sens may be looking to make a blockbuster trade to free up some cap space. Prospects Torgersson and Rodrigue also need to be signed.

Are the Sens open for business? With no picks for the upcoming draft, are the Sens looking for a blockbuster to acquire some young prospects and first round picks? We will see how the next few weeks unfold but I suspect the Sens may look a bit different come opening night at Canadian Tire Centre. Hey they may also be owned by Ryan Reynolds and company. Lots of exciting things happening in the nations capital. Go Sens Go!
