Sens Trade Deadline

O'Marra Comes Home

By Antonio Borrelli

The trade deadline has passed and the Sens have made some moves, bringing in some future stars and some vets to help in what hopes to be a long playoff run.

Forward Ryan O'Marra spent 15 seasons with the Ottawa Senators. During that span he appeared in 1,194 games, scored 413 goals, added 631 assists, good for 1,044 points. He also had 1,671 hits and 3,022 shots, resulting in a 13.6% shooting percentage. The Senators had several young players join the big club in the offseason which forced their hand in letting O'Marra test the market. The veteran signed a 1 year deal with the Canes for $1.5m. With trade rental period open and being the last hours before the deadline, GM Borrelli decided to make things right and bring O'Marra in for hopefully a deep playoff run and to have Ryan retire a Senator this offseason. The 39 year old will bring a wealth of experience and leadership to a team built of many young players.
Outside of the O'Marra deal the Sens also completed deals bringing in Shea Theodore from Philly, Josh Harding from Winnipeg, Oliver Rodrigue and Sami Niku from Detroit (Niku was later flipped for veteran forward Nicklas Backstrom) and Brian Lee from Anaheim. Excitement is buzzing in the city of Ottawa. As of this date the Senators own a record of 34-19-7-3, are fifth in goals for and second in goals against and are battling it out for the top seed in the East with the Blue Jackets, Canadiens and Rangers. The Sens hope these additions help push them over the top allowing GM Borrelli to win his first cup and bringing the city to the streets for the parade. Go Sens Go!
