Flyers Leap into Playoff Spot

By Julian B

Over the course of the last month the Flyers have slowly moved their way up the standings and have finally found themselves 8th in the east. This past week saw two more trades out of Philly. Firstly rental eligible Trevor Lewis was sent to the Seattle Kraken for farm center Freddie Hamilton. Through 60 games in the AHL Hamilton has tallied 22 goals and 33 assists for 55 points. At just 1.2mil next season, management is hopeful he can find his way into the line-up either as a 3rd line center or injury call up option. The other deal saw Philly acquire rental Thomas Hickey from the Buffalo Sabres. Hickey was previously a member of the Flyers from 2016 to 2019. As an offensive dman Hickey gives the club further depth scoring. In his first game with the Flyers Hickey amassed two helpers and a +1 rating. Going to Buffalo was a 3rd round pick and cash.

Today's contest resulted in a big 6-2 win for the orange and black over the highly skilled Nashville Predators. Nick Backstrom led the way with two goals, two assists and a +4 rating. Recent acquisitions Michael Grabovski and Sven Baertschi were exceptional with multi-point games of their own and +4 ratings. A result that hopefully foreshadows the remainder of the season leading to a playoff berth.
