Flying High Since Deadline

By Julian B

The Flyers have been soaring up the Eastern Conference following the trade deadline. Since acquiring Dana Tyrell to center the third line, Philly have won 9 of 12 games jumping them up to the top of the Metro division and just two points back of the conference leading Detroit Red Wings. It's been a multi pronged effort all season, Tage Thompson, Filip Zadina, German Rubtsov and Lucas Raymond have all reached the 60 point mark, Zadina and Raymond have reached the 30 goal mark. Thompson has been a play-making specialist with his 43 assists. On the back-end, Julius Honka, Urho Vaakanainen and Moritz Seider all sit at or above 35 points. The goal-tending has greatly improved as of late, led by Martin Jones 2.66 GAA and .907 save percentage.

If the season ended today, Philly would have a first round meeting with the Toronto Maple Leafs. The Leafs made a solo add of their own at the deadline in Fabian Brunnstrom from the Penguins. It is safe to say, defending the cup is the goal this post-season, and it will be a tough road once again. There are several cup worthy rosters slated to make the playoffs. The hottest team at the moment is the Anaheim Ducks who currently own a 9 game win-streak.
