Flyers Make Surprising Addition

Missing Piece?

By Julian B

Something just isn't clicking in Philly this season. The magic the club found in the post-season has been seemingly lost to the ether. Team management observed what they were potentially missing... short answer; Mitch Wahl. The high scoring forward was a key addition last season assisting Philly in securing a playoff spot and eventually staking claim to the Stanley Cup. With Wahl now on a healthy $8.5 million dollar seven year deal with the Avs, his services were unfortunately out of reach. The Flyers went on search for a similar talent. San Jose's Mikhail Grabovski offered that skillset and Philly set out to acquire him. The trade talks started a few days ago before the deal was finalized early Sunday morning. Grabovski is now a Flyer and will suit up for their game on Wednesday vs the St Louis Blues (assuming he doesn't get injured in today's contest between the San Jose Sharks and the New York Islanders).

'Grabo' will slot in the first line LW spot and hopefully jump-start an up and down top six for the Flyers. This is a last-ditch effort for a team that does not want to see a cup winning season followed by a missed post-season. It will be a tough road as they are running out of time between now and the trade deadline. If the Flyers remain inconsistent, Grabovski would likely be placed on the trade block and moved to a contender looking for a reliable 77SC rental.
