Flyers Score 7 vs Avs

By Julian B

The Flyers are showing signs of recovery. Their chances of hopping back into the playoff picture are not strong but with over half of the season remaining there is still hope. Thursday afternoon saw Philly visit Colorado to face the Avalanche. Former Flyer and cup champ Mitch Wahl opened the scoring for the Avs at 3:17. Colorado however was under non-stop pressure which eventually gave way to two markers before the end of the frame. Troy Terry and Damon Severson scored the first goals of their NHL careers giving the Flyers a 2-1 lead heading into the first intermission. The 2nd period was more even in terms of shots (10 each) but the Flyers were the ones to strike three times on goals from Kane, Backstrom and RNH. Jankowski would score early in the 3rd for Colorado before RNH took over and scored twice earning a much needed hat-trick to get his season back on track. RNH would finish the night with 4 points. 7-2 was the final. The Flyers led on the shot clock as well 34-19. The Flyers were blanked on their two powerplay attempts and surrendered one on their three infractions.

Next up, the Flyers head home to host the always dangerous Winnipeg Jets (20-13-4).
