OTTAWA CITIZEN - Its been 23 games and the Ottawa Senators are not where they wanted to be. If you showed anyone this roster on paper, they would tell you they should be a contender in the East, instead they are battling for 30th in the FNHL. However, with some line juggling, the Sens are 3-1-0 in their last four games, with their lone loss being a third period crumble at the hand of the league leading Nashville Predators. Are the Sens on the mend? Time will tell but its a start.
With the team struggling through 23 games, there have been many rumours swirling around the big names, especially the vets. There has been some talk of team interested in veterans Ryan O'Marra, Nigel Dawes and Marc Andre Cliche. Cliche has had a good start to the season which has drawn the most interest, but Dawes and O'Marra are certainly under performing when the team needs them the most. Each of them still have a lot in them and any team would be happy to have them but they aren't ready to leave just yet. "I'd love to bring a championship to this city. My family has grown up here, I've spent a lot of years here and we now call this city our home so it would be amazing to win it all here," Ryan O'Marra said on After Hours on Hockey Night in Canada. The biggest rumour to date though, is the interest in Auston Matthews. Obviously he is one of the most talented up and coming players in the league, but would it make sense for an older team, who needs to start turning the lineup over to the youth of the league, to trade a guy of this caliber and age? Anything can happen I guess but if it did it would be quite the trade for a team that is very close to needing a rebuild.
With 59 games remaining, there is lots of hockey left to play, lots of potential trades, and so much more excitement yet to come.
