Third Line Shines in Close Win

By Ethan Smedley

The Dallas Stars secured a close 3-2 victory over
the Carolina Hurricanes, it was a physical game with a great goaltending
performance from Micky D. While the Stars have plenty of superstars on their
top line, Dallas got its win through its third line.

The Stars third line started it early. Lucas
Lessio opened up the scoring in the first period, with some nice puck movement
from Mattias Samuelsson and Matias Maccelli. Maccelli continues to prove to be
an offensive machine with limited minutes, later setting up blue-liner Maxim
Goncharov late in the second period for a Dallas lead. Maccelli, who is on a
contract year, keeps shining and may be seen on the second line next season.

Defensively, Dallas stuffed the Canes,
outshooting them 31-25. As mentioned before Micky D was great, saving 23 of 25
shots and keeps showing that he deserves recognition.

The game ultimately ended at 17:25, when the
Stars Captain Jamie Benn buried the game winner off an overdue assist from
Nikita Chibrikov.

Despite winning the team still has plenty to
improve upon, especially ranking dead-last for Power-Play with a 3.6%
conversion percentage. GM Smedley will have to adjust the lines and really
switch things around for the Florida Panthers tomorrow. Just a few days ago in the
team’s first meeting, the Panthers outshot the Stars 35-23. Dallas is running
with Mason McDonald in net knowing a rest day is right after the game. After
the Stars will travel to Seattle before trying to get revenge on the Islanders
at home. Right now management wants to keep things rolling but there is a possibility where in a couple weeks we see some players getting traded or an extension.

Next Game: Tomorrow, 8 EST, Dallas Stars at
Florida Panthers
