In an attempt to add further depth and experience to the club, Flyers management reached out to a few clubs hoping to strike a deal. After a couple days of negotiations a trade was completed with the San Jose Sharks. Coming to Philly, 19 year veteran Sergei Kostitsyn who had started the season poorly with just 3 goals and 1 assist through 14 games in San Jose. Sergei is a part of the 1000 point club with 1043 points in his 1334 career games. Just last season he scored 28 goals and 35 assists with the Sharks. The Flyers are hoping he can return to form and quickly adjust to his new surroundings. Three depth pieces were part of the package sent back to the Sharks; forwards Frank Vatrano and Tobias Rieder, defenceman Gustav Forsling and a 2031 LA 3rd round pick.
Both clubs earned a win in their first games since the trade; the Flyers a 3-1 win over the Blue Jackets and the Sharks took a big 6-2 win against the Panthers. Both clubs hope to see this level of success here on out.
Next up, the Flyers host the Seattle Kraken who are off to a great start of their own at 9-4-1 led by a strong core and complementary depth scoring.
