Well, the 2
nd
try season is under way and this version
of the canes is barely off to a better start than their initial 0-3 start with
this rounds 1-2 start after 3 games.
Despite out shooting their opposition during all 3 games,
the team has managed to only score 5 goals in total, while giving up 10.
Goaltending has to be a concern, Korpisalo has been shaky
while being out-played by the goalie at the opposite end of the rink in all
three games. In one game, the Canes had
41 shots on their opposition, while giving up only 21, but still managed to
lose.
Things are not going to get any easy with the oilers on the
slate next. Even though the Oilers have
the same record as the Canes, they have been played a much tighter and higher
level of play.
On a bright note, Karlsson has scored 3 goals in 3 games and
has been the team’s most consistent player.
For some reason, historically, this team has gotten off to
sluggish starts after punishing pre-seasons.
Still no theory as to why.
Management will likely have this year’s steam on a very short leash,
changes will be made if the team is still struggling at the 15 game point of
this season.
