Another Wasted Season

By Duane Goetz

Well, another season has come to an end with a similar result,
coming up just a few points short of the final playoff position once again, with
a bizarre record of 29-31-22, yes that is not a typo…..22 ties!  Hard to fathom that a team would go through a
full season encompassing only 7 more wins than ties.  Even just being able to pull 3 measly games
of those 22 out of the fire for a win would have resulted in this year’s
version of the Canes to make the playoffs.

The season started out with lots of promise, this year’s
version had no problem scoring goals, but struggled in keeping the puck out of
their own net.  With 250 GF the team was
the 8th highest scoring team in the league, but with 253 GA the team
was 6th worse in the league.

On the endorsement front, the team fulfilled the requirements
for both endorsements, signed with CCM and Adidas.  The team scored well over 230 goals and Kopisalo
had faced more shots than the required 1800 shots.

Many of the team’s top forwards, Vilardi, Monahan, Boesser,
and Denisenko reached personal bests in points in a season.  Korpisalo had a very strong year in his first
season as the teams number 1 netminder.
Delmas filled in very well as the backup keeper and will be in the same
position next year.

Much of the roster is locked up for next season, but there
are members of management that are pushing for major changes.  The team has been mediocre for the past 4
seasons, either not making playoffs or losing out in the 1st round.

Stay tuned, as everything points to an interesting offseason.
