23 Games In

By Duane Goetz

Things are starting to look up for the Canes as the league
reaches the ¼ point of the season after the slowest start to the season that
the Carolina team has had in the past.

Even though the team is currently on the outside of playoffs
looking in, 1 point shy of the last playoff spot.  The team is 6-2-2 in their last 10 games,
with the team’s overall performance picking up in all areas.  The team’s offense has been more on point,
finishing scoring chances on a much higher rate and with timely goals being
provided by a surprisingly solid 3rd line.  Leading this line has been Lance Bouma, who
is currently on a 4-game winning streak and has a solid 8 goals and 6 assists
for a total of 14 points in 23 games.  So
far this year he is what Perlini was for the team last year, a true diamond in
the rough.

On another note, the team’s new strategy with the development
of young goalie Korpisalo seems to be working thus far.  Korpisalo has been brought in the fold of the
big team to back up Rask and learn from the savy vet.  Korpisalo has started 2 games and played in a
total of 6 games is relief as well.  With
a SA% of .933 and a GAA of 1.89, the team is very pleased with the rookie’s
level of play.

The team is now looking for the top two lines and the high
paid players on the team to pick up their play even further and continue to
build on the team’s improving record and to climb in the standings.
