Walking the Playoff Tightrope

By Duane Goetz

Another year, another team, players go and players come, but
it is the same old story….only a few games remaining and once again a playoff
spot is in jeopardy.

With 2 games remaining the Canes find themselves only 3 points
away from being out of the playoffs.  It
is imperative that the team gets some points out of the remaining two games
against the Islanders and the Kraken.  The team’s position is the result of both season
long inconsistent play and long-term injuries to important cogs in the machine.
The team started out this season with
very strong play and even were number 1 in the league standings for portions of
the year.  Then the team’s level of play continues
to decline to a lose 2 – win 1 stretch while missing key players for extended
periods of time.  The team’s playoff
status will be cleared up in the next few days.

On the endorsement front, The Karlsson watch continues as
after a 9 game point streak he needs 3 points in the team’s last 2 games in
order to fill the requirement of a 70 point season.  Fingers crossed that he can come through, as
the team could use the money to continue to develop and reach the goals that
they are striving for.  The team has
already surpassed the minimum 16 home wins required to meet the other
endorsement deal on the books.

Today’s game is the 2nd game in a home and home
series with the Islanders, the team from New York won the first game, holding
the Canes to just a single goal and more importantly, Karlsson off the score
sheet.  The team needs a big effort
today.
