This season has been one unlike others so far through 35
games. We see the usual Nashville Predators & Chicago Blackhawks ran
conference in the West being unbelievably close as of now. The 7 seed is
separated by 2 points from the 2 seed and the 12 seed only being 4 points out of
that 8th playoff spot. We also see the MVP race being completely
different from the past few years. Usually there is a player or two that is far
above the rest and is leading the race by a significant margin. But this year
we see 8 players with 39 or more points, the highest having 43 points. Among
these players is the Stars own Jamie Benn. He currently has 40 points through
35 games, with a 19 +/- rating and 5 game-winning goals. The captain who’s on
the last year of his deal and just overtook Backstrom for the most points in a
Stars uniform has been playing at a career high and if this play maintains he will
be getting paid this offseason. After Jamie Benn the Stars have both Clayton
Keller and Jesperi Kotkaniemi with a respectable 30 points.
Just yesterday Dallas played a game that was circled on the
schedule, this was against the division foe Avalanche and their GM Ethan Prevost
who is a close friend of Stars GM Ethan Smedley. This game was a field day for
both goalies as it was 1-1 until the 22-year-old rookie Owen Tippett scored a
powerplay goal half-way along in the 3rd period, this ended up being
the game winner and a +1 for trash talk points between the two GMs.
