Canes Early Rankings

By Duane Goetz

The Canes’ surprising season continues to move on as the
team finds itself in 1st
place overall and number 1 in the recently
released FNHL Power Rankings with a record of 16-8-0-1 after 25 games.

The offense has been led by newly required vet Ovie, along
with his linemates Karlsson and Monahan.
The trio found chemistry as soon as Melker was promoted to the 1st

line 5 games into the season.  On the
other hand, Denisenko has thrived being moved down to the 2nd
line
to patrol Vilardi’s wing along with the surprising Perlini. Perlini has 20
points in 25 games after spending all last season on the farm.

The young defense has jelled far better than was expected or
could have been hoped for.  The top
pairing of Trouba and Heiskanen has been solid with Heiskanen having a Norris
type season thus far.  The 2nd

pairing of Juolevi and Lindell has been very reliable, the future is bright for
the young 20s-year-old dmen.

Rask coming back to the crease for the Canes has also been
solid so far, both he and Svedberg have carried over .900 SA% and have only had
a couple less than par performances.

Next up today is a road game in Pitt against the local team
the Pens.  The Canes are coming off a 2-day
break in the schedule and hope to keep the momentum rolling.
