Looking for the Bright Spots

In a tough year, trying to find the positives

By Bobby Berger

The Los Angeles Kings are not currently sitting in the
position they expected this season.  A
large portion of that is due to the Kings having had 11 of their games either
end in a tie or an overtime loss.  That’s
over 20% of all games played.  Leaving 11
points on the table is the difference between being a playoff team and
not.  The Kings have also lost a large
volume of one goal games.  With all of
that bad news, comes some positive stories, which is what the article is going
to focus on.

For the Kings, Viktor Fasth recently earned his fourth shutout
of the season. This achieved his endorsement and will allow the Kings more
flexibility in providing Fasth rest down the stretch.  Jared McCann, the budding superstar, currently
has 51 points in 54 games and is poised to break his career bests.  Ryane Clowe, a veteran free agent brought in
this year currently has 43 points, and is on pace to challenge his career
bests.  Lastly, 19 year old rookie,
Trevor Zegras is on pace for 58 points in his inaugural season.  All of these are positives, but the largest positive
may be yet to come.

The Kings AHL affiliate, the Manchester Monarchs, are
currently sitting in third place in the AHL.
Leading the way for the Monarchs is Dennis Yan.  Yan was considered a throw-in in a deal with
Buffalo which brough Fasth to the Kings.
The 24 year old is on pace to score 110 points this season.  The future looks bright as 16 Monarch players
are averaging at least a point a game, and of those, only 3 are over the age of
27.

The Kings are hoping for a push down the stretch, but it is
comforting to know that regardless of how it plays out, the future is looking
bright in L.A.
