The Los Angeles Kings have hit a roadblock in their recent schedule losing 3 of 4, but the worrying part was how they lost them. The Kings dropped one game 7-1 to Washington another 4-1 to Minnesota, then beat Anaheim 4-2, only to turn around and get absolutely boat raced by Seattle 8-0. The questions started all around Hockeywood as to what this star studded team would do in a search for answers.
When asked during a recent season ticket holder event, GM Berger said, "we likely made all our moves early as we don't have much flexibility against the cap so this team will have to figure it out."
The lines have been re-thought and the Kings decided to load up D on their first line pairing Jared Cowan with P.K. Subban. That pair had been broken up the entire year to try and spread some experience to other lines. That plan is going to be scrapped. As a result, Cameron York and Vince Dunn will be paired on line 2. While both are still earlier on in their careers, this may add some offensive juice to a 2nd line that has lagged this season. Jared McCann, the Kings long time star is having his worst season in as long as anyone can remember. The Kings are trying to shake him out of the slump by moving long time winger Roby Jarventine onto line 2 with him. As a result recently acquired Carl Hagelin will join the first line hoping to have success with team MVP candidate Jack Eichel. Eichel is leading the FNHL in assists and recently completed his endorsement by registering his 36th assist of the season.
One thing GM Berger pointed out to the Los Angeles faithful was that the sky is not falling. "As upset as everyone has been of late, this team is still sitting 3rd in the conference. We still have a shot at repeating as Pacific Division champs. Remember our goal this year is advancing far into the playoffs and hopefully winning a cup. This is a long season, keep showing up. I know we will."
The city of Angels sure hopes the teams starts doing exactly that, showing up.
