Rise of a Star

By Ethan Smedley

The Dallas Stars have now played 1/4th of their season. The first few games were a major struggle for this team that needed a change. That being said GM Smedley brought up the organizations number 1 defensive prospect in Timothy Liljegren. Currently he is sitting at 15 points through just 13 games. In those 13 games the Stars are 8-3-2 and seen an offensive performance that looked completely different compared to the first few games. Along with Liljegren's stellar performance there is Lauri Tukonen and Rickard Rakell with 22 points each, Clayton Keller and Jamie Benn with 21 points each, and finally Jesperi Kotkaniemi with 19 points. The offense has looked like a different team with Liljegren in the pros and GM Smedley loves everything about it. There is more than just the offense that is catching GM Smedley's eye. With the struggles of Andrei Vasilevski to start the season, 25 year old tender has found himself starting in 8 games this season. He finds himself at 6-1-1 with a 2.84 GAA and a .905 save percentage. During the streak of games McDonald started the Stars faced the rival Coyotes. This was a hard fought game that featured the Stars taking a 4-3 win which brings GM Smedley's record against the Coyotes and their GM Ken Knoph to 4-1. After a tough 6-4 loss to the New York Islanders the Stars are hoping to bounce back against the Golden Knights.
