Small tweaks, big returns

Changes pay big dividends

By Bobby Berger

The Los Angeles Kings started the season 1-3-0-1. In these games, the Kings usually strong power play was nowhere to be found, with a 4% success rate. As a result, a few familiar faces were put back together. Tony Lagerstrom and Jakub Kindl were put back on the second unit. With the band back t ogether, the power play regained it's old form and is now sitting at a tidy 17% Quite the marked improvement.

This has served as a catalyst for the rest of the team as well. The Kings are in the midst of a five game win streak. During this streak former rookie of the year Jared McCann has managed to collect 9 points in his last 2 games. Also of note is the strong play of Viktor Fasth. Fasth already has 2 shutouts on the young season, tying his output for all of last season.

The Kings have also started to clamp down as a team, taking more shots than they are allowing for the first time in the last 2 years since GM Berger took the reins. It remains to be seen if this team can continue operating at such a high level with back to backs against Nashville and Montreal on the horizon.
