The Los Angeles Kings watched the movie Old School together on one of their team bonding nights during a recent road trip. Little did the coaching staff know that they were setting a tone for the Kings last 10 games. In the movie Will Ferrell (a huge Kings fan...just Google it) has a scene where he runs around campus after a frat party naked while screaming, "let's go streaking!" The Kings took this message literally. Not the naked part (although some of the play had some wondering) but the streaking part.
The Kings played some awful hockey during a 4 game winless streak, with 3 of the losses coming against teams who were out of playoff position and without GM's. The Kings have then followed that up with 3 straight wins against some tough teams. After a hard fought 3-1 win against the Eastern powerhouse Canadians, Kings captain Jack Eichel said, "we have been playing to the level of our completion too much this year. We have to play out game no matter what. If we play our game we can beat anybody."
Eichel continues to set a ridiculous pace, leading the league in assists by a healthy margin after collecting his 53rd assist of the year during a 5-4 win over Detroit. The Detroit game saw some life from Jared McCann, a perennial all-star who is having a decent season, but nowhere close to his usual 70 point pace. "This year has been a frustrating one for me. I have been getting the opportunities but the puck luck just hasn't been there. Hoping this is the start of a streak," said McCann. Streak seems to be the theme amongst the team it seems.
