Fifteen games into the season, one of the fantasy league's most dangerous offensive weapons is searching for answers. After signing an endorsment deal with Turner Sports they 30+ goal scorer is on pace for less than 15 goals this season, a career 13.3 shooting percentage should be reason not to panic but he needs to get going.
Artemi Panarin has continued to generate chances and create offense, but the finish simply hasn't been there. Through the opening 15 games, the superstar winger has posted 2 goals and 8 assists for 10 points, but his 4.8% shooting percentage has become one of the league's biggest early-season storylines.
Panarin has registered 42 shots on goal, yet only two have found the back of the net. For a player known for his elite scoring touch, it's an unusually cold start. The opportunities are there, but the puck just hasn't been finding its way across the goal line.
The encouraging news is that Panarin isn't disappearing from games.
He's averaging 21 minutes of ice time, continues to drive offensive play, and has chipped in eight assists while maintaining a +3 rating. His vision and creativity remain among the best in the league, and he's still creating quality chances for both himself and his teammates.
Sometimes all it takes is one fortunate bounce, one perfectly placed wrist shot, or one confidence-building multi-goal game to completely change the narrative.
For opposing teams, that's a scary thought.
With 67 games still remaining in the season, Panarin has more than enough time to turn things around. If his shooting percentage begins to regress toward the level expected from a player of his caliber, fantasy goaltenders around the league could soon find themselves facing one of the hottest scorers in the game.
Until then, patience will be the key.
The chances are there.
The talent has never been in question.
Now the only thing missing is the finish.
