Too Soon To Panic? Panthers Terrible Start

By Toby Rice

Just six games into the young season, fans are ready to hit the panic button in South Florida. At 1-4-1, the season hasn't gotten off to the start they expected. Sitting dead last in the Eastern Conference, Florida will have to make some adjustments before a real panic sets in.

"We're going to have to make adjustments. I don't think we're looking at trades yet. It's six games. Let's see where we're at around the 20 game mark. At that point you start to worry a little bit, I think," says the Panthers' GM.

While the standings are tough to look at this early on, there are a few bright spots in the organization. Linus Omark, who signed a team friendly contract to return to Florida this offseason, is leading the team with 4 goals and 3 assists. Brayden Schenn has 6 points in as many games, and he looks to continue the production level he set last season.

Down on the farm, the Rochester Americans are shining bright in the AHL. In six games, they're 5-1 and have scored a staggering 86 goals. This measure leads the entire league, and they sit tied with three other teams for the best record early on. Eduard Sale leads the way with an incredible 7 goals and 12 assists. He's on pace to shatter minor league records.

Needless to say, shall the Florida Panthers put up a dud in the first half of the season, there's plenty of talent on the farm ready to seize their opportunity.
