Blues 70 game update

By Jason Besancenez

The Blues season has now reached the 70-game mark. The Blues are currently in the midst of a five-game losing streak. Sitting at 61 points for the season, the Blues have the fifth worst record in the league. Not a lot of bright spots this season for the team from St. Louis. Rasmus Kupari leads the team in points with 62, a full 15 points ahead of the next closest player. With the pro team doing this bad, let’s take a look at what is going on with the farm team.

There are currently 16 players on the farm averaging at least a point a game. Kyle Rau leads everyone with 89 points, on pace to break his career high of 100 points. Alex Formenton leads the farm with 39 goals, which is already his career high.

Six of the top nine-point scorers on the farm are 23 years old or younger. Which is hopefully a good sign for things to come up on the pro roster. The pro team is in desperate need of goal scorers. Although on the current pro roster there are only 4 contracts that are up at the end of this season, and only 2 of those players are eligible to become unrestricted free agents if not resigned. GM Dave Semyck is going to have to work some offseason deals if he is going to be able to free up some roster space for the young players to be able to come up and contribute on the big club. That and a top five pick should make for an interesting offseason.
