St. Louis Season Wrap Up

By Jason Besancenez

As this season has come to a close, there are a few things that are abundantly clear in awful city of St. Louis. The Blues finished 31-42-5 for 71 points. They scored 224 goals while giving up 249. Last season they were 31-39-10 for 74 points, scoring 226 goals and giving up 256. With the same number of wins, and essentially the same number of goals both scored and given up, this season has been nothing short of a waste. The growth across the entire team just wasn’t there. While playing another season, and gaining experience, but yet standing in the exact same spot as a year ago is beyond frustrating to everyone in the entire organization. The rest of the league seemed to gain, while St. Louis Blues didn’t. Last year 74 points aligned with the 9th pick in the draft, so 8 teams had fewer points at the end of the season. This year it equates to the 5th pick in the draft, so only 4 teams were worse. Is the bright side getting what will likely be a top 5 pick in the draft? Maybe. This team has several players on it that were recent top 5 picks in the draft and are not winning any more games than before. What are the holes that need to be filled this offseason? With only 4 teams behind you in the standings, it seems that there are more holes than there were last year. This team could use more experience. Relying on youngsters to both produce and gain experience isn’t working.

This team really looks like it could use a change of scenery, the entire team. Maybe playing in a different city, for different fans will help jumps start this team. What is the chance that the entire organization gets a change of scenery? Only time will tell……..but it certainly can’t hurt.
