Tiger Tales - Issue #3

By Jared Bickler

As the New York Islanders rebuild their team, the future rests on the success of the Bridgeport Sound Tigers. Since the news of the parent team is rarely newsworthy, with Tiger Tales, we will feature the highlights and lowlights of the farm.

Bridgeport Sound Tigers - 9
Grand Rapids Griffins - 2

The Tigers get the win on the back of standout goalie Vitek Vnacek who has been as steady as you can get for a farm goaltender. His performance was the only real standout as the Tigers offence was evenly spread out.

Hamilton Bulldogs (Montreal) - 20
Bridgeport Sound Tigers - 8

In this fast-slapping, the Tigers had been given a taste of their own medicine. Over the past few weeks the Tigers have been dishing out the lashings, but on this night, they were the victims. The only real noteworthy performance was that of Mavrik Bourque who scored two goals and added an assist.

Bridgeport Sound Tigers - 2
Iowa Stars - 2

Maybe it was the bus ride to the middle of a cornfield that put the sticks to sleep, but Vitek Vanacek, the Tigers undisputed starter, put up another gem between the pipes. With the tie, the 25 year old netminder improves his record to 9-0-2 and more importantly improves his goals against average to a paltry 2.36.

It was a slow week for the Tigers whose schedule has been light over the past couple of weeks. Next week, the schedule doesn't appear to be much better with the team resting three of six days. Hopefully the added rest will put some fire back into the offense that up until this week has been white-hot.
