Brink of History

Duncan Keith

By Anthony Erickson

While it may not be National Headline news, the Minnesota Wild are embarking on a milestone event that may not be broken for some time to come.

Duncan Keith, an undrafted player, started his career back in 2010 with the Minnesota Wild. Fast forward to the start of his 16th FNHL year and he's still playing for that same organization. At the beginning of the year, he was 37 games shy of time the All-Time games played list for Minnesota. In those previous 15 seasons, he has lost only 41 games due to Injury/Suspension. In those 1225 previous games, he is not only a leader on the ice, but owns almost all records for a Defenseman in the history of the Wild.

In 15 and a half years, "Dunc" has amassed 177 goals (#1 D, #5 overall), 429 assists (#1 D, #3 overall) and 606 points (#1 D, #3 overall)... He has only been a minus player 4 times in his career and has amassed a +221 +/- rating (#1 D, #1 overall). He also leads the team in PIM at 885 and Short-handed goals with 10. His 2415 Hits ranks him right behind Gaborik (3013).

Leading into his final year on his contract, there may be a little uncertainty about his future. When asked about what he thinks, Keith had this to say: "I try not to worry about that. I just come in every day, put in 100% and help to improve the team. I would love to remain in Minnesota and finish my career here, but if that doesn't happen, I can still go away knowing I've made a difference."

We reached out to GM Aaron Williamson on his thoughts about this historic event and what it means to the Organization and Fans. "Duncan is a staple of this team. I have only been with Minnesota since the '17 season, but I have always had my eye on him. He always plays above and beyond expectations.".. When asked about the contract Williamson followed up by saying: "Of course we want Dunc here. Kaner and Dunc are the face of the organization and we would do anything to keep him here. We know he wants to stay and we want him to say. We'll just have to see if his Agent wants him to say at the end of the year <chuckles>. But yes, we will definitely do our work to make sure Mr. Keith doesn't need to change zipcodes anytime soon."
