Panthers Preparing For Trade Deadline

By Toby Rice

With the trade deadline approaching, the Florida Panthers are weighing their options. With $2.5 million in cap space, there's an opportunity to add. However, could the Panthers also be planning to part ways with some players at the deadline? Speculation has started and this is what we know.

Brock Boeser - 80 ov, 30 years old: Brock was acquired at the beginning  of this season and hasn't played to his potential. During the season, the Panthers locked up their top 6 going into next season, so we wouldn't be surprised if Boeser if moved at the deadline. If management believes they aren't true contenders, Boeser will be the most sought after Panther in the next few weeks.

Isak Rosen - 76 ov, 23 years old: The young center could find his way being forced out of Florida next season as several young centers are waiting in the wings. Would it benefit the Panthers to ship out Rosen at the deadline? If there is an opportunity to receive a draft pick, we think he will be moved.

Simon Robertsson - 76 ov, 23 years old: Similar to Rosen's situation, Robertsson is on an expiring contract and might not have a place on the roster next season. Both players are RFA, so they may get to see a playoff run in Florida.

Antti Niemi - 78 ov, 37 years old: Niemi is a rental option for a team that needs a cheap backup. He will be shopped at the deadline, but the Panthers are in no need to move him. With Raanta's play this year, Niemi has seen little action, but the veteran could be helpful if the Panthers make the playoffs.

We're predicting a light, but strategic trade deadline for the Florida Panthers. Management is always looking for ways to improve for now and in the long-term, so anything is possible. GM Rice will be watching what's available, and if there's a chance to make this team better, don't be surprised if there's a trade no one saw coming.
