Stutzle & Guenther Stepping into Leadership Roles

By Toby Rice

While the Florida Panthers continue to struggle as a team, on the outside looking in, there are some bright spots for the future of the franchise. Second year pro, Tim Stutzle is leading the team with 41 points through 48 games. He's on pace to score 20 more points than his rookie outing last year.

"It's great to see him growing into a leader," said the Panthers' coach. "He's getting top line minutes, and when we've put our young guns together, Stutz, Laf, and Guenther... it has worked. They're going to be a great core for this team."

The biggest surprise so far this season might be none other than Dylan Guenther. The 21 year old right wing is in his second season, but first earning top six minutes. In 49 games, he has tallied 15 goals, 25 assists and 40 points. Last season he finished the year with 39. He is on pace for a 67 point season.

"We're excited to watch him grow. He's stepped up in a big way, and he's projecting to be a big player for this team. Last year we tried to give him as many minutes as possible, but the depth of the team kept him on the bench more than he would like. He's really taken the ball and run with it this season. There's a lot to be excited about with this kid."

The Panthers hope to turnaround their season and earn a berth into the playoffs, but they'll have serious work to do. Stay tuned as we get closer to the trade deadline, as we expect the Panthers to be involved in a lot of rumors leading up to that day.
