Cooled Off

By Connor Moriarty

The Jackets came out of the gate hot, winning 10 of the first 13 games while only losing 1 over that span. With contributions from up and down the lineup, Columbus now sits 3rd in the East with 32 points after 24 games after a 3-4-3 stretch in the last 10.

"If we could find a way to win some of these games where we ended in a tie, we would be in an excellent position. But I cant harp on the guys, its been a fantastic start that has set us up for a solid season."

Each of the Jackets top 6 forwards have contributed more than 17 points per game, including 2 stud rookies Fabian Lysell (6G, 14A) and Cutter Gauthier (5G, 13A) who are playing on the top line alongside Nico Hischier.

Matthew Tkachuk is enjoying the best start to his career with 22 points in 24 games and is meshing well with Sonny Milano and Alex Newhook on the 2nd line. "The notion of 1st line, 2nd line and so on is wrong, we have 3 very strong lines and each of them can compete up and down the lineup with any team in the league" Despite playing 3rd line minutes, Lias Andersson is on pace for his best season statistically and offseason acquisition Val Nichuskin has produced well despite missing games to injury.

Both Kevin Poulin and Drew Commesso have been solid to start the year, with Poulin seeing the majority of the action thus far - posting a 2.35 GAA and 9 wins.

Columbus is coming off a tie in Washington and travel to Anaheim to take on the resurgent Ducks on Friday, with Poulin getting his 3rd start in a row.
