Still Hangin' Around

By Michael Ramsey

The 2029 FNHL season is just over halfway through and the Bruins find themselves in a hotly contested Eastern Conference. After a scorching start to the season, Boston has been slowly dropping in the standings over the past month but this team continues to fight and are not ready to give up on their surprising run. First year GM Mike Ramsey was busy over the holiday break on the phones as he continues making deals and shaping this team into his own.

A solid mix of veterans and youth continues to be the strategy as GM Ramsey figures out the long term direction of this team. Mid-season acquisitions Niklas Backstrom and Richard Rakell have helped solidify the top six and taken some of the pressure off the rookie forwards. Filip Chytil, Juraj Slafkosky and Tyson Foerster are developing into what seems like a very bright future in Boston. Goaltender Semyon Varlamov continues to be the workhorse in net along with shut down defenseman Ty Wishart on the back end as defense still remains the weak point of this squad. Boston may not be ready to win the cup this year but getting as much experience for this young team will be important in the years to come.

As the trade deadline approaches, the Bruins will look to stay active in the market as they continue to tread the line between buyers and sellers. With several rental options available and a strong core of players on the farm, there will be no shortage of assets to be discussed in trade talks. Stay tuned this winter as there is much more to come from the blizzards in New England.
