Disappointing Season Draws to a Close for Rangers

By Jeff Nagle

Stick a fork in em', they're done! The New York Rangers finish the season with their 17th tie of the season, deadlocking the Washington Capitals 4-4. The added point left the Rangers 8 points out of the playoffs and now gearing up for what will be an important offseason. With eight draft picks, three in the first round, the Rangers will be looking to stock the farm with new fresh faces, adding to the slew of young prospects already playing in Rochester. The Rangers do hold their own first round pick which will fall in the top 5, and is in the running for the lottery.

"We made a couple of franchise altering trades earlier this year that will set us up for the long haul. And with our pick being so high, we are going to be looking to add an impact player that we can hopefully build around as we move forward. We still have a very talented team that just couldn't put it all together this year, and I truly feel that missing the playoffs this year was a blip, and we'll be back in the dance next year." said GM Nagle

The Rangers are not expected to be players in free agency, and don't have many free agents of their own to resign. All of their focus will be on making their farm team one of the deepest in the league. With 10 players 23 and younger on the farm, and with eight more young picks on the way, the Rangers will have turned a script that saw the team with one of the shallowest youth depth in the FNHL to one of the deepest. Now it will be up to the current roster to guide these youngers along and with any luck will keep the Rangers from having to go through a complete rebuild.
