Are the Rangers on the Brink?

By Jeff Nagle

All good things come to an end. The current Rangers group has been around for many seasons, first assembled by the great GM Pete Martin, GM Nagle has take them just about as far as he can. After years of dealing away draft picks for veteran talent, the cupboards are bare in Manhattan, and with no heir apparent in the wings, the clock is ticking. Ticking loudly.

This season was supposed to be "the last dance" for the Rangers. Faced with a pending salary cap crunch, and aging talent, the plan was to run this group out this season and go after a championship. However, with nearly a half season in the books, it doesn't look like there is any spark to take this current roster to the promiseland. As the losses (and fucking ties) pile up, some have to wonder if perhaps it is time for GM Nagle to cash out and stock up on picks.

With the Rangers holding all of their first round picks for the next five years, and a stockpile of cash in the bank, one has to wonder if it would be wise to scorch the earth and rebuild a new core. There are plenty of desirable veterans on the roster that many teams would certainly be interested in -some with very cap friendly deals.

Who knows what will happen in Manhattan, but if I were a GM looking to trade in some youth for a bonified stud forward or defenseman, I would be knocking on GM Nagle's office door. He has a history of acting swiftly and promptly, and when presented with reasonable offers, he is willing to ensure both team wins the deal.

Get your offers in fellas, strike while the iron is cold in NYC.
