Blues 25 game check-in

By Jason Besancenez

At the 25-game mark, the St. Louis Blues have accumulated 23 points, leaving them just 63 points outside of the top 8 in the west. As they push through the next third of the season, can they fight their way into the top eight and a playoff spot?

A few transactions have happened since we last checked in with them. Gone is Emil Poirier, he was sent off to division rival Dallas, in exchange for two defensemen. Jamie Oleksiak, a 30-year-old veteran, was brought in to be a calming influence for this young and talented group of blueliners. Brining in Oleksiak also allowed Ville Pokka to be sent back to the farm to develop. The other defenseman brought over in the trade is Jett Woo, a 20-year-old future star, that is leading the farm team in points. This deal was a win-win for the Blues. It helped them this season, and potentially in future seasons, keeping the St. Louis blue line stocked with talent for years to come.

The shuffle is allowing more ice time to some young forwards, letting them prove they belong on the pro roster. We are also seeing improved performance from Alex Nedeljkovic, which is what is helping to push the Blues up the standings, this after a rocky start. If the defense and netminders can step up their games, we can possibly see the Blues push their way into the playoffs. We are looking for a strong second half of the season, facing tough competition.
