Columbus Offensive Woes

By Connor Moriarty

The title of this article likely doesn't paint an accurate picture for the struggles this season offensively for Columbus, woes is the biggest understatement possible.

Columbus is close to the bottom in scoring in the league, with an extremely dreadful 85 goals in 37 games, a little over 2 goals/game with Nico Hischier currently leading the team with 25 points in 36 games or a 56 point pace for the year - well off his previous season and career average. "There isn't much to say, our top forwards aren't producing and its showing where we are in the standings. We had much higher expectations coming into the season and this is not where we expected to be at this point" GM Moriarty commented, on his teams current 5th place standings in the Eastern Conference.

Defensively has been a significantly better story, and its the reason the Jackets are sitting in a playoff spot. "Poulin and Commesso are the reason we aren't planning for a fire sale at the deadline, the team has been solid defensively but Poulin has been on his game" Poulin ranks 2nd in both GAA and SV% behind only FNHL legend Leland Irving in NY. The Jackets have allowed the least amount of goals in the league, which will be beneficial come playoff time but there is plenty of time left in the season in which they are right in the thick of the race.

GM Moriarty insists he will remain patient, but is always open to conversations involving trading players away to bring in impact guys.

The Jackets get a day of rest on Friday, giving time for Hischier to heal from a undisclosed injury. Commesso and Poulin will continue to have a 60/40 split in starts and will be relied heavily upon as we approach the 2nd half of the season.
