Jets financial state

By Skylar Barth

It has been a few years in the making, but the Winnipeg Jets are a consistent performer in terms of the bottom line. While there is yet to be a championship delivered to the Canada Life Arena, one thing you can insure [sic] is that the Jets are getting slowly better. And better by means of financial fortitude. Where there is money, there is development, there is options, there is flexibility. At a recent GM Roundtable, it was discussed how imporant ticket prices are, and how we should all be keeping an eye on our markets, streaks, common opponents, to see how we can maximize our revenue streams and in turn, re-invest that into our teams. Some may, of course, opt to spend their cash in other manners, but a sure fire path to success can be built from within.

With 7 80+s on the squad this year, the team is pulling in an average of $2,262,422 per home game with an average stadium spectator count of 16,304. The year began with a higher ticket price, due to inflation, but as consumer demand waned, an equillibrium was struck at 50$ per head. We look for concessions, merch, and ancilliary revenue to help cover the project targets for this year. With big camps ahead for a young squad on the rise, there are some big names in the pros to be replaced. Kuznetsov, Nino, are the two big ones up front, and some new contracts are going to need to be handed out come this offseason. The Jets stand in a half decent financial projection to continue to trend upwards in terms of core stat capabilities which should help keep them competitive as the league increases in skill year over year.

"It is encouraging," said the GM. "It has been many years in the making. We have increased the value of our on-ice product and our farm systems have seen development with recent draft picks giving new fans players to follow and grow with."

The Jets are in a ok spot, 24 games in and in a playoff spot. Cracking the top 8 is all we can hope for. With the parity in this league, you never know when you may find yourself on the outside looking in. There are quite a few teams who are stacked across the board but losing 1 goal games here and there tell a different tale when all the dust settles.

A recent trade block was floated by the tenured GM, no responses have came in about top performer Nino. Nino has done a lot for the community, but some discussions have arose to the realistic potential of the Jets bringing home a championship with this current configuration, and Nino may have a better chance elsewhere, similar to White last year. Keep an eye on this situation as we get closer to the deadlines.

Until next time.
